Coco Gauff continued her remarkable rise up the WTA ranks by reaching her maiden Grand Slam final at Roland Garros. Gauff burst onto the scene as a 15 year old in 2019 at Wimbledon, where she beat seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams. Big things have been expected from her since then, and she is now on the cusp of delivering after beating Martina Trevisan 6-3, 6-1 in the French Open semi-final. "I think I am a little bit in shock now," Gauff said. "I did not know how to react at the end of the match "I have no words to describe how I am feeling. Thank-you for cheering me on. "I was not nervous going in today. The only time I get a little nervous is in the morning. I go for a walk and that clears my head and after that I feel great." Gauff wrote a message on the camera after the match pleading for an end to gun-related violence in the US, and she says the perspective recent events has given her is helping her tennis.

"I am in a mindset where it does not matter," Gauff said. "I am going to be happy regardless. I am just going to go into it like another match. "It is a Grand Slam final. But there's so much going on in the world right now, especially in the US a lot of stuff is happening, so it is important not to stress over a tennis match." Gauff will face a daunting challenge in the final as she takes on world number one Iga Swiatek. The Pole is currently riding a 34-match winning streak and already has one French Open title to her name.
