HARVEY-JOE Bertrand has become the fourth confirmed signing of the day for Dorchester Town.

Bertrand played 11 times for the Magpies after penning a dual-registration deal with Blackfield & Langley last season.

Bertrand, the brother of Premier League defender Ryan, impressed with his versatility but was largely used as a centre-back for the Magpies.

He has signed a one-year contract at the Avenue Stadium having played a big role in helping the Magpies stay in the Southern League Premier South last season.

Manager Glenn Howes said: "We are delighted another young protégé has committed his future to the Magpies and Harvey-Joe proved to be a real find to claim his place in the starting 11.”

"There was real desire demonstrated by the player to come and play for Dorchester Town.

"Although we had to be respectful to Blackfield & Langley, it was pretty clear once Harvey-Joe started training with us there was an abundance of potential demonstrated.

"We’re excited to see how far we can develop Harvey-Joe.”

Who are the other signings?

DORCHESTER have confirmed captain "colossus" Callum Buckley, star striker Alfie Stanley and Tiago Sa as remaining with the Magpies.

Buckley in December 2021 signed a deal running to the end of the 2022/23 campaign and the Magpies have now reaffirmed his contract.

Stanley was former boss Robbie Herrera's marquee signing after leaving Portsmouth last summer.

The forward scored 13 goals in 36 appearances in 2021/22, including a sublime hat-trick at Tiverton.

He comes into the second year of his contract at The Avenue, with the forward openly keen to use the Magpies as a platform to return to full-time football.

Formerly of Aldershot and Weymouth, central defender Buckley has made 46 career appearances for the Magpies - including 34 last season.

Buckley can also play at left-back but it was at the heart of the Magpies' defence where he impressed last season.

Dorchester boss Glenn Howes told the club's media team: “Buckers was a colossus in our back line last season and continued to lead by example.

"Whilst still being young in years, Callum possesses really good leadership skills that were forever prevalent in last season’s run in.

“This of course couldn’t have been possible without the Fans' Association's support and I, along with the supporters, can’t wait to see our team captain back at the Avenue this forthcoming season.”

On Stanley, he added: "It gives us great pleasure in welcoming back last season’s top goalscorer, Alfie.

"Alfie not only scored some decisive goals in big moments, but also contributed to the team in several areas, which led to further recognition in scooping our player of the season award.

"It proved to be a significant debut season in senior football and one that has laid the foundations for Alfie to further establish himself in non-league football to hopefully achieve his ambition to bouncing back to the professional game.”

Sa is the other player committed to Dorchester Town for the 2022/23 Southern League Premier South campaign.

Left-back Sa has signed a one-year contract, keeping him at the Avenue Stadium club until next summer.

He has played 79 times for the Magpies across four seasons, scoring twice - once each in the past two seasons, but missed a chunk of the last campaign with an ankle injury.

Magpies' boss Glenn Howes told Dorchester's media team: “Tiago showed great desire and dedication to his rehabilitation programme towards the tail end of last season.

"This resulted in some stellar displays in big games and we’re delighted to reward Tiago with a one-year contract.

“It would be very easy to dismiss the low maintenance approach that Tiago chooses to adopt, but hopefully this demonstrates a small token of our appreciation and commitment.

"I’m sure you’ll share our excitement in looking forward to seeing Tiago rampaging down that left once again at The Avenue next season.”

Buckley, Stanley, Sa and Bertrand's confirmation comes after seven players have left Dorchester this summer.

Ash Wells, Oakley Hanger, Harry McGrath, Billy Lowes, Tom Soares, Charlie Gunson and Yemi Odubade have already exited.
