A pillar box tied in a knot and a multi-coloured glass tunnel are among artworks set to transform the streets of West London for Kensington and Chelsea art week.

The works will feature in a public art trail through the Royal Borough as part of a 11 day festival that features talks, installations and exhibitions.

Alex Chinneck is to showcase his pillar sculpture titled ‘Alphabetti Spaghetti’ in Lockton Road, Notting Hill, while Liz West’s Through N.III multicoloured glass installation will feature in Duke of York Square.

Launching on October 1 the programme includes murals and public artworks acknowledging the Covid-19 pandemic and paying tribute to the NHS.

A new addition to the festival is Art in Windows featuring local artists and creative studios who will transform store windows along the iconic King’s Road and Kensington High Street.

The Love Kensington + Chelsea Hoardings project will feature work by artists celebrating the different histories of the borough by painting murals on construction boards in unusual locations. More than 100 artists and cultural institutions are involved.

The art week’s founder and director Vestalia Chilton, said: “Despite enormous uncertainties we have maintained a strong team and more than doubled our festival activity for 2020.

“Our single ambition during these difficult times was to support our local cultural organisations and to endorse the resilience and hard work of our community.”
