Wayne Rooney has been having a tough time of late with DC United as his side finished rock bottom of the Eastern Conference in MLS.

The former Manchester United forward had made a good start to his managerial career at Derby County, but he has found things difficult abroad so far.

Rooney admitted his relief after the season had finished, “Thank God the season’s over,” Rooney admitted via Washington Post. “I think it’s a relief for all of us.

“It’s a big offseason for us. If we’re going to compete, if we’re going to be successful, there will have to be big changes and quite a few of them.

“We can’t afford to waste time getting them fit. If they do the work, they will be ready to go straight into football. If they don’t, it will be difficult for them.

“I’ve learned a lot since I’ve been here,” Rooney said. “It’s my job to push the owners [to sign players], and if we want to be successful, if we want to develop as a team and a club, we have to make sure we make the right decisions. It’s going to be a lot of work, but it needs it.”

It’s not just him who has been having a tough time of late though as Steven Gerrard recently lost his job at Aston Villa after a poor run of results.

We’ve compared Rooney’s record with the other members of England’s 2006 World Cup squad that have dipped their toe into management.
