Congratulations everyone, Succession has been renewed for a fourth season!

Wow, we're obsessed with Succession, and right now we're fully in the throes of that obsession since the release of season 3 earlier this month. So, congratulations are in order for all us Succession fans, since HBO Max has just confirmed that the show will be returning for a fourth season. Here's everything we know about Succession season 4.

Is Succession season 4 *definitely* happening?

We can absolutely confirm that Succession season 4 is happening. Not only did HBO Executive Vice President Francesca Orsi confirm the show's renewal in a recent press release, but the official Succession Twitter account also tweeted the news late last night (Tuesday 26). The tweet showed a short teaser of clips of home movies from (presumably) the Roy's childhood along with the caption, "Renewed for Season 4."

While this won't come as much of a surprise to fans of the show, it's still good to get that definite confirmation since plenty of shows are cancelled right from under our noses despite their big fan bases.

What's the plot of Succession season 4?

At this point, who knows?! Season 3 only landed 10 days before the season 4 renewal announcement, so things are still a bit too dramatic to unpick at this point. However, people are speculating that season 4 could be the last one.

Speaking to Variety before the release of season 3, creator Jesse Armstrong spoke about the longevity of the show and broke all our hearts with his answer. When asked how long Succession might go on for Armstrong replied, "I don't want to say," adding, "All I know is there’s a promise in the 'Succession' title, and it can’t go on forever."

Look, we get it. It's the right thing to do, but it still hurts to hear.

Who's will star in Succession season 4?

Since things with the Roy family aren't exactly resolved we can pretty much assume that all the main cast will be back for a fourth go around, but of course, all that will be confirmed closer to the time. Plus, as with most new seasons we can probably expect some new additions to the cast list, and if there's a chance of it being the finale season might there be some big and exciting names in there?

When will Succession season 4 be released?

We're probably looking at a fair wait right now. Plus it's pretty hard to gauge it based on the release dates of previous series, since coronavirus caused big disruptions to production and release schedules, but we could possible be looking at summer 2022 at the earliest with autumn being a more realistic option. Either way, we'll be here, waiting patiently.
