Conor McGregor's agent hints at WWE move but insists defending his UFC lightweight title remains ‘the priority’

Conor McGregor’s manager has insisted that there is “no question” the Irishman will return to the UFC, although has admitted there is a chance he will make a money-spinning appearance in WWE.

McGregor is currently enjoying a break away from combat sports following his 10^th-round stoppage defeat to Floyd Mayweather, in August. McGregor made over $100m from the fight, which became the highest-grossing pay-per-view event of all time in the UK.

The Irishman now has a number of different opportunities in front of him, with potential match-ups in the UFC, boxing and even WWE. But Audie Attar has said that defending his lightweight crown remains his first priority.

“There are all these different things that pop up in the media - some true, some not true,” Attar said during an appearance on Sky Sports News, when asked about reports McGregor was now focused on crossing over into professional wrestling.

“As it relates to mixed martial arts, I think Conor has been clear that he wants to come back and fight for the UFC. So there is no question that is going to happen.

“Who that is going to be and what is next is still to be determined. We are just starting to talk and explore all the options.

“But Conor is a draw. He does record-breaking gates and pay-per-views.

“At the end of the day, it does not matter what he does - whether it is WWE or the UFC - he is going to have a record-breaking event.”

McGregor’s most likely next opponent is the UFC’s interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson, who called McGregor out after defeating Kevin Lee with a third-round triangle choke submission at UFC 216 on Saturday night.

The 23-3 fighter said he would be ready to take on McGregor as soon as “next week” and called on him to "defend or vacate” his belt.

While still in the octagon, Ferguson addressed McGregor as “McNuggets” and said he was going to “kick the ass” of the Irishman. “You better come and f*****g defend that belt. Defend or vacate,” he added.

The fact that both McGregor and Ferguson are represented by Attar and Paradigm Sports Management would add extra intrigue to the clash, with Attar promising to put the fight together if it made sense for both men.

“We'll see, there are a lot of options,” Attar added. “You had the interim lightweight title [fight] between Kevin Lee and Tony Ferguson last weekend in Las Vegas.

“Tony came out victorious. I represent Tony so I was really happy for Tony to accomplish that.

“You have the trilogy fight with Nate Diaz. You even have boxers like Manny Pacquiao knocking on the door.

“I've said this before in many interviews - Conor has earned the right [to choose] and the numbers don't lie. He is weighing his options.

“He is looking at all the different options and opportunities that are there for him but there is no question that he wants to come back and compete.”
