Conor McGregor Fans the Floyd Mayweather Rumor Flames, Reveals Fight Poster

Although nary a pundit believes there is any traction to the rumors of a boxing match between UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor and retired boxing legend Floyd Mayweather, Jr., the rumors continue to spread like wildfire.

Why?

Because McGregor, currently in a very public dispute with the head honchos of the UFC, and Mayweather, a money magnet, are nothing if not promotional powerhouses. Mayweather has long been a master at self-promotion, and McGregor seemed to follow in his footsteps, applying Mayweather's marketing techniques to his UFC career.

It's highly unlikely that a bout between McGregor and Mayweather would happen. McGregor is under contract with the UFC and one of the promotion's biggest stars. They're not gonna let him go.

At 49-0, Mayweather has been toying with the idea of coming out of retirement for a fiftieth bout. In all likelihood, it would only be for a monster payday, but also, it would likely only be against a fellow boxer. Of course, Mayweather is the master, and he's been teasing the MMA vs. Boxing angle right along with McGregor.

“It’s possible. It was a name that was shot at me,” Mayweather said of a possible bout with McGregor in an interview with LIFTN.com. He also added the disclaimer. “The rumors that you all been hearing is the rumors that I started. It may not be a rumor. Keep you all fingers crossed.”

For those that are curios, McGregor has more than 1.7 million followers on Twitter, where he posted the mock fight poster. At the time of publication, the poster tweet had more than 37,000 likes and more than 37,000 retweets.
