Conte has given Kane ‘perfect excuse’ to leave Tottenham as Man Utd ponder blockbuster deal
Following his recent outburst, Stan Collymore believes that Antonio Conte has given Harry Kane the perfect excuse to leave the club this summer.
Along with Conte, Kane’s future has been up in the air this season. His current deal expires in 2024 and he will be 30 years old this summer.
The Spurs striker has been in fine form this season and hasn’t let any of the noise distract him. He has scored 21 league goals and is on track to have one of his best-ever goalscoring seasons.
Despite his excellent goal return, all has not been well at Tottenham this season. Behind the scenes issues have plagued their season and they now risk missing out on the top four.
Collymore thinks that the messy situation at the club could pave the way for Kane to exit this summer. “The situation at Spurs is giving Harry Kane the perfect excuse to leave in the summer,” Collymore told CaughtOffside.
“He’s never had an easier way out. Seriously, who is honestly going to begrudge him a move elsewhere now?
“That man has done just about everything he can for Spurs but now, at the age of 29, soon to be 30, this summer is going to be possibly his last opportunity to move on and go to a club that stands a real chance of winning some major silverware – whether that is Chelsea or Manchester United, who knows, but I guarantee that they’ll both be in the running for Kane come to the summer window.”
Where next for Kane?
Kane certainly won’t be short of suitors in the summer, although Tottenham could yet price him out of a deal. While his contract is running down, they still value him highly.
The Times recently reported that Tottenham would only greenlight a £100million deal if the fee was paid in one colossal lump sum.
While Manchester United could afford this type of deal, it could deter them from making Kane a primary target in the summer.
Collymore himself thinks that a move to Man Utd would be perfect for Kane, although he also wouldn’t rule out a move to Chelsea.
“If I were Kane, I would do everything in my power to get a move to Manchester United, but that’s me speaking as an older former pro, the fact Chelsea are based in London will probably play a big part as Kane’s family life may mean he doesn’t want to relocate too far away from where he has been for the majority of his playing career.”
As things stand, Tottenham are fourth in the Premier League, although both Newcastle and Liverpool have two games in hand on them.
If they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season, it would be hard to envisage Kane sticking around, despite what the club means to him.
