Controversial Bakambu brace downs Leganes

Democratic Republic of Congo attacker Cedric Bakambu struck twice in the second half as Villarreal beat Leganes 2-1 in a Primera Division match on Saturday.

Bakambu was the chief orchestrator at the Estadio de la Ceramica as his brace strengthened Villarreal's hold on fifth place, which will earn a Europa League berth for next season.

It took the 26-year old 68 minutes to open the scoring when he cheekily turned away from a defender and fired a low effort past the goalkeeper from the edge of the area after receiving a back-heel pass from Roberto Soldado.

His second came in consolation time in controversial fashion, as it appears that the France-born attacker indeed used his hand to steer the ball into the net.

The strikes were the attacker's seventh and eighth of the campaign as he continues to chase double fingers in his second season in the Spanish top tier.
