Twenty-five years after Cool Runnings warmed the hearts of cinema-goers, there's sort of a real-life sequel coming.

Cool Runnings famously told the true story of how Jamaica's male bobsleigh team made it to the Winter Olympics for the first time in 1988.

Now, in a case of life imitating art imitating life, the Jamaica Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation has confirmed that the first ever women's team will compete this year.

After appearing for the USA as a push-athlete in 2014, captain Jazmine Fenlator has switched to her father's native country and hopes to lead her team to victory at Pyeongchang next month.

After coming seventh in the Winterberg World Cup last month, the Jamaican team is aiming for a top-10 placement, and Fenlator revealed what the motives are for her and the landmark team of women.

"This time I have the opportunity to represent my other home – Jamaica – and make history as the first female team representing the country in the Winter Olympic Games."

She will be joined by brakewomen Carrie Russell and Audra Segree.

Just as the 1988 men's team inspired "one of the finest - and funniest - sports movies ever", let's hope the 2018 women make similar mark on that icy run.

With gender-swapped remakes and sequels all the rage at the moment, we'd be well up for a new story of athletes succeeding against the odds.

The Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games will run from February 9 to 25.
