Jack Cork has penned a two-year contract extension at Burnley football club, the Championship outfit have announced.

The experienced midfielder was due to be out of contract this month. But he has opted to stay at Burnley following their relegation to the Championship.

This is a boost to the Clarets considering that James Tarkowski and Ben Mee are set to leave.

Burnley do not have the luxury of time to make mistakes so Vincent Kompany is a risk

Cork, who joined Burnley in a permanent move from Swansea in 2017 after a loan spell earlier in his career, follows striker Ashley Barnes in committing his immediate future.

Cork told the club’s website: “I’m really excited to go again. There is an exciting opportunity to try and get promoted out of a tough league and as soon as there was talks about extending my stay here, I couldn’t wait to sign.

“The chance to work with Vincent Kompany, someone I have played against for a number of years, and someone who has won everything as a player, is great, and it will be great to learn from him.”

Elsewhere, according to reports, Everton are set to sign Burnley defender James Tarkowski on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract.

The centre-back has been with Burnley since 2016. They signed him from then Championship side Brentford.

Tarkowski has played 219 times for the Clarets across all competitions. He was capped twice for England in 2018.

The 29-year-old has consistently been Burnley’s top performer over the past few seasons.

With them suffering relegation on the final day of the 2021/22 season, they were always going to struggle to keep Tarkowski.

The experienced defender’s contract is due to expire and Sky Sports are reporting that he has ‘agreed to join’ Everton.

Tarkowski will pen a four-year deal and it is understood that he has ‘completed a medical and agreed personal terms at Goodison Park’.
