Jimmy barry-murphy will be delighted at the performance of one of his new recruits in today’s Dr Harty Cup action.
Michael Cahalane starred as Hamilton High School (Bandon) overturned Dungarvan CBS by 0-13 to 0-11 this afternoon in Mallow in what was the last of the competition’s quarter-final ties. The game had been postponed last week due to an unplayable pitch.
Cahalane, a dual Cork minor player last year, struck 0-10 as Hamilton High School triumphed in a game where they had enjoyed a 0-8 to 0-4 advantage at half-time.
Dungarvan CBS had won the Munster and All-Ireland senior B hurling crowns last year while also joining with St Augustine’s (Dungarvan) to win the Dr Harty Cup and Croke Cup titles.
Hamilton High now go forward to face Ardscoil Rís at the semi-final stage of the competition. Cahalane was recently called up to the Cork senior hurling squad for the coming season despite still being in school.
