Coronation Street confirms Max's tense return home as Alya struggles

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Alya Nazir faces a traumatic reminder of her past next week when Max Turner returns home.

Max has been serving a six-month sentence at an STC for his involvement in racist Griff's far-right extremist group.

Earlier this year, Alya was caught in the crossfire when she was stabbed by extremist group member Blake, who later claimed that Max's hate-filled videos provided him with the inspiration for the attack.

In upcoming scenes, Yasmeen Nazir is horrified to learn from Lily Platt that Max is set to be released early from the STC. Yasmeen is furious to think that the troubled teen could be coming home when his actions almost led to Alya's death.

Yasmeen isn't alone in her thoughts, as Max is also deeply troubled when he learns of his early release. Refusing to go home, Max jams the cell door with his bed and vows to stay put.

Max has been struggling with his mental health during his time at the STC and has been feeling true remorse for his actions.

Talking through the cell door, David Platt tries to reason with Max and assures him that he'll help Max adjust to life at home. Max confesses that he can't face returning home after the terrible things he's done.

Keen to make amends for his past actions, Max spots a delivery driver outside Speed Daal and hands him a letter intended for Alya.

Alya reads Max's letter but isn't moved by his apology. With anger building, she storms off on a mission.

Paddy Bever, who plays Max, recently discussed his character's state of mind following Max's return to screens.

He explained: "Max hasn't had a happy life and at the moment he is sitting in a cell, with nothing to do, and he is thinking about everything that he has done wrong and what has happened to him in his life.

"He debates the point of carrying on. He expresses thoughts of hopelessness and he is experiencing a lot of pain."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
