Coronavirus: Nando’s re-opens six UK restaurants for delivery

Nando’s has announced it is re-opening six of its UK restaurants for delivery only from Tuesday.

Four restaurants in London and two in Manchester will open to offer a delivery service to the public through Deliveroo.

The move comes after the peri-peri chicken chain brought the kitchens at the six sites back into action last week in order to cook food for NHS staff and charities.

The chain said that more of its restaurants could begin to open for deliveries if the “first phase” of its reopening plans prove successful.

Nando’s said it will be offering a limited delivery menu from these outlets, but there will be no eat-in or collection options.

In a statement, Nando’s said: “The menu will be reduced to help the team maintain social distance in the kitchen and food prep areas, but never fear as the majority of Nando’s favourites such as peri-peri chicken wings, halloumi and peri chips will now be available to enjoy at home.

“After a successful trial re-opening serving meals to local good causes, they are now upping production to serve the public.”

Nando’s highlighted the health and safety measures in place at the open sites, saying “every member of the team has been washing their hands more frequently while maintaining social distance during shifts” and emphasising that they were working under Public Health England guidelines on top of their existing health and safety procedures.

The chain said that each restaurant will also continue to provide meals every shift for local charities and NHS workers.

All 400 of Nando’s UK outlets have been closed as part of the coronavirus lockdown since 22 March.

It will now be offering deliveries from its Camberwell, Canary Jubilee, Clink Street and Gloucester Road sites in London, as well as its Fallowfield and Printworks restaurants in Manchester.
