Corrie's Channique Sterling-Brown on which co-star backed her at auditions

Coronation Street's Channique Sterling-Brown has been on our screens as Dee Dee Bailey since September last year, and it looks like she might have a fellow cast member to thank.

Speaking to Inside Soap, the actress heaped praise on the actors who play her on-screen family, and made a little revelation.

"Lorna [Laidlaw, who plays Aggie] is obviously the love of my life," Sterling-Brown said. "She has looked after me and had my back from day one.

"Allegedly, when I screen-tested, she was quite adamant to our producer who she wanted, which was really kind."

Speaking about the other Bailey family actors, Sterling-Brown said: "They are so brilliant. I literally love all of them.

"Me and Ryan [Russell aka Michael] are terrible when we're together, just like brother and sister, always giggling or dancing on set. Trevor [Michael Georges, who plays Ed], is really laid-back. I deffo reckon he's fallen asleep on set before.

"Vinta [Morgan aka Ronnie] is so wonderful, so kind and wise."

The actress also told the publication what it was like partying with the Corrie cast at The British Soap Awards the other week, revealing she "might have had too many cocktails."

"The party itself was brilliant, but the after-party with everyone doing a bit of karaoke and eating McDonald's was great," she said. "People think it is so glamorous, but it's just a bunch of normal people having a knees-up. I love it!"

The soap's most recent episode saw Dee Dee get fired by Adam after he learned about his wife's affair with Damon Hay, and that his employee knew about it.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
