Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) interim head coach Mike Hesson has claimed that the latest signing, Singaporean-Australian cricketer Tim David, has the potential to replace established superstars, Glenn Maxwell or Ab de Villiers if the need arises in the IPL 2021’s UAE leg.

Having lost four foreign players, Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson, Finn Allen, and Kane Richardson, prior to the start of the second leg of the mega-event, RCB decided to rope in like-to-like replacements. As a result, on-the-rise all-rounder, Wanindu Hasaranga got a contract with the Bangalore franchise.

Also making their way into the squad were Dushmantha Chameera and Tim David. The latter is just 25-years-old but he has a lot of experience having played in most of the T20 leagues around the world. David also played in the recently concluded ‘The Hundred’ for the Southern Brave, who was crowned as the champions.

Coach Mike Hesson was full of praise and also hailed the all-rounder, calling him a ‘power player’. David has scored 1186 runs in 50 T20 matches at a healthy strike rate of 155.84.

With Finn Allen leaving, we have decided to strengthen our middle-order possibilities, in terms of options, so Tim David has joined our squad.

He is currently part of the Southern Brave [at the Hundred], he has been performing for Surrey and also Hobart Hurricanes in recent times – a power player. He could become a direct swap for either [Glenn] Maxwell or AB de Villiers if required, also gives us other options throughout the order,” Hesson pointed out.

“We have shown steady progress as a team” – Mike Hesson on RCB’s performance in IPL 2021

RCB has been the perennial underachievers of the IPL. They’ve had teams filled with superstars over the years but they’ve never been able to form a complete team. This time around, the team looks healthier having strengthened its bowling attack.

We have made some changes to the squad pertaining to the situation. We have come a long way and have shown steady progress as a team. The additions couldn’t have come at a better time in the replacement window, as we aim to continue with the momentum, building on our performance from earlier this year,” Hesson revealed.

Currently, RCB occupies third place in the table, having five wins out of seven. Their first match after the league resumes will be against a wounded Kolkata Knight Riders team.
