Cricket: We couldn't have asked for more - Ashwin ecstatic as India close in

Ravichandran Ashwin's statistics make impressive reading. Here we look at the numbers behind his achievements with the ball in Tests.

Ravichandran Ashwin felt India's dominant performance against Australia on day three of the fourth and final Test was as good as it gets, as a series victory moves into sight.

Set 106 to win in Dharamsala, India closed 19-0 with just a further 87 required on day four to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the end of what has been a dramatic series.

Monday's play was certainly in keeping with what had preceded it - India earning a first-innings lead of 32 before running through the tourists for just 137 to leave a modest target.

Ashwin (3-29), Umesh Yadav (3-29) and Ravindra Jadeja (3-24) did the bulk of the damage, the latter having previously plundered 63 to give his side a crucial advantage ahead of Australia's second innings.

"We couldn't have asked for more. It was a great first session, we got our noses ahead and then it was a great spell by Umesh and Bhuvi [Bhuvneshwar Kumar]," Ashwin said.

"They set the tone for us, they came out firing all guns and blazing and the results are there to see.

"We had to buckle in and fight, we got some vital partnerships going and it was special from [Wrridhiman] Saha and Jaddu [Jadeja].

"The pitch is very, very good to bat on. There's a few cracks which can be tricky but apart from that if you get your timing right there's a lot of runs on offer here.

"[Jadeja] batted beautifully. I told him there was a hundred for the taking which he missed, after [passing] fifty he played a few loose shots.

"We hope there is more tight batting from [Murail] Vijay and [KL] Rahul, and that they can get fifties for themselves."
