Coventry City given clear Frank Lampard response amid Doug King next manager search
Talks with Frank Lampard to take the reigns of Coventry City are said to be nearing a conclusion - but Coventry Live readers in our comments section are desperate to see any deal done after seeing three weeks go by since Mark Robins' sacking.
The announcement of the former Chelsea and Derby head coach as Coventry manager is said to be close, and could happen imminently. Lampard has been at the top of the bookies' list of favourites, with the sudden availability of ex-Leicester and Nottingham Forest man Steve Cooper failing to cause a stir.
Lampard hasn't managed since leaving Chelsea for the second time in the 2022-23 season, and is now ready to step back into the fray. His time at the London club was unconvincing, but he does have a fine performance with Derby County on his CV - and that's the Lampard that many would prefer.

Some fans are just eager to see it done. Reader 1987stew says: “Whatever Doug King decides, I hope it is sorted soon so that all of us and the club can try to move forward with certainty.” Covnz agreesL “Sorry Doug this has gone on long enough, get someone in ASAP or it’s going to be a fight for survival."
Commenter Takemehome87 will be happy to see him in the post, after receiving former Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley's praise: “Lampard will bring quality with him. I agree with what Pressley’s said about him and I back him to come good this time.”
Riva writes: “Lampard wouldn't be my choice, however he does have connections and hopefully he will 'borrow' a decent centre half in January who can defend. Both goals last night were preventable.”
Lampard still splits opinion, however. Coventry17 says: “In my opinion the wrong choice for us, would rather we tried to poach the Wycombe manager and some other coach. FL is not very good and we don't need Ashley Cole and Jody Morris. Rather have John Eustace if possible.”
It will all come down to transfers for reader 50Cal: “I think a lot of the January window decisions will be dependent on the new manager coming in and the system he opts for. If we persist on five at the back then we need an experienced centre half to replace lati then have Binks and Thomas either side. Regardless of system we need to upgrade Dasilva to give competition/cover for bidders. Finally I think even the most disagreeable types on here can see we need at least one more body in centre midfield.”
