What are the Cowboys doing with Jason Garrett? That's the big question in Dallas, and there doesn't appear to be a clear answer.
The Cowboys closed out the year with a victory over the Redskins in their season finale, but they missed the playoffs after the Eagles defeated the Giants to capture the NFC East crown. Ever since the clock hit zero Sunday, it has felt like a matter of when, not if, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would fire Garrett.
As of Friday afternoon, though, Garrett is still officially the team's head coach. After 10 seasons with Garrett at the helm, is Jones ready to start fresh? Or will he stick with Garrett despite a disappointing 8-8 campaign?
Here's the latest reporting around the league as Garrett awaits his fate:
News, updates on Jason Garrett's status with Cowboys
— Garrett met with Jones and his son Stephen, who is Dallas' executive vice president, Monday following the Cowboys' final regular-season game, but media members were told no official decisions would be made that day.
— Following Monday's meeting, Garrett spoke with Jerry and Stephen Jones again Tuesday, according to ESPN's Todd Archer. That conversation ended without any resolution as well.
— David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reported Garrett was supposed to have yet another discussion with Jerry and Stephen Jones on Thursday before they determined Garrett's future with the organization.
— The Cowboys decided Garrett "will not be part of the organization moving forward," according to ESPN's Ed Werder.
Source: #Cowboys Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones have moved slowly and with “abundance of care and respect” for Jason Garrett. That phase expected to conclude soon with Garrett not part of organization. Next phase to involve candidate interviews will begin quickly thereafter.

— Following the ESPN report, the Cowboys announced Friday that there is "no official news" regarding Garrett's status. NFL Network's Jane Slater noted that Dallas coaches and players have yet to be informed of any changes.
At this hour, coaches and players tell me they have not been informed of any changes at the head coaching position. #Cowboys HC Jason Garrett, himself, has yet to respond to my inquiries. If a decision is imminent, it has still not been conveyed.
