Cowboys likely need new kicker for Sunday after Greg Zuerlein hits COVID-19 list

The Dallas Cowboys' attempt at a rebound after their drubbing from the Denver Broncos is off to a rocky start.

The team announced Tuesday that it is placing starting kicker Greg Zuerlein on the reserve/COVID-19 list, likely leaving it without a kicker, for now, for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Per the Cowboys' website, it is unclear if Zuerlein has a chance to return in time for Sunday's game. If he tested positive for COVID-19 and is unvaccinated, that would knock him out for 10 days, similar to Aaron Rodgers. If he tested positive and is vaccinated, he would be out until testing negative 24 hours apart.

The Cowboys haven't indicated if Zuerlein tested positive or is merely a close contact, though their actions indicate the team is preparing to play without him. According to Michael Gehlkin of the Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys will hold a kicker workout on Wednesday that will likely determine who they take into Sunday's game.

In eight games this season, Zuerlein has made 14 of 18 field goals and 21 of 23 extra points, with a longest make of 56 yards. He did not attempt a kick against the Broncos.
