Cowboys' Robert Quinn earns $879K sack bonus in 7th game to hit $10M in salary

Defensive end Robert Quinn got a win in his pocketbook even if his Dallas Cowboys couldn’t get it done on the field.

Quinn triggered a $878,789 bonus when he collected his seventh sack of the season Sunday night, per Jeremy Bergman at NFL.com. It came in the second quarter on a third-and-5 when he took down Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins for a nine-yard loss, pinning the Vikings back on their own 25. The Cowboys trailed 14-0 at the time and went on to lose 28-24.

Quinn now has 7.5 sacks on the year after coming close to the bonus last week against the New York Giants with a half sack.

It’s a notable bonus since it pushes his yearly earnings to $10 million. Quinn is getting paid approximately $1.1 million by the Miami Dolphins, who traded him to the Cowboys in March. (The exact number is $1,121,211.) His contract with Dallas gives him a $6 million base salary with a total potential roster bonus of $2 million ($125,000 per game), according to ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Quinn, 29, reached the bonus, which was set at a half-sack higher than last season’s total, within seven games. He had a sack in all but one game and had two sacks twice along with a total 16 tackles and 11 quarterback hits.

His career high is 19 sacks in 2013 and the last time he reached double-digits was in 2014, both Pro Bowl seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. He’s on pace for 15 in 2019.

Quinn was suspended two games by the NFL for using PEDs, which he and his agent argued by saying the pass rusher has a history with seizures. For missing two games, which were already in question after he underwent surgery on his left hand, he lost $941,176 according to Spotrac.

He has made around $10 million every season since 2015, when he accrued nearly $16 million including a roster bonus of more than $10 million.
