Cowboys starter Damontae Kazee arrested on DUI charge
Dallas Cowboys starting safety Damontae Kazee was arrested near team headquarters early Tuesday on a charge of driving under the influence.
A police spokesperson told reporters that Kazee was pulled over around 3 a.m. in The Colony, Texas, not far from the team's Frisco practice facility. According to police, an officer observed signs of impairment before Kazee admitted to drinking. Kazee then failed a field sobriety test, per police.
Kazee was arrested and later released on $2,500 bail from The Colony municipal jail. His alleged blood-alcohol concentration wasn't reported.
Bad start to bye week
Kazee's arrest arrives at the start of a bye week for the Cowboys. The team website posted on Kazee's arrest and noted a message from head coach Mike McCarthy to his team at the start of the bye week.
"Yeah, we talked about it last week when I told them what the schedule was going to be," McCarthy said Monday. "Talked about the distractions and what we don't want. We have an outstanding season, 5-1 where we are. Make sure that everybody is taking care of themselves and spend as much time as they can with family and friends."
Kazee, 28, is in his first season with the Cowboys after playing four seasons for the Atlanta Falcons. He's played and started in all six Cowboys games, recording 17 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and three passes defended. The 5-1 Cowboys have a three-game lead over the 2-4 Washington Football Team and Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East.
