Craig Gordon 'to be axed' from Scotland Euro 2024 squad as Steve Clarke makes choice

Craig Gordon is reportedly set to be axed from Scotland's Euro squad as Steve Clarke makes the tough decision.

The Hearts goalkeeper was named in the provisional 28-man squad for the Germany tournament despite managing just seven appearances for the club this season following recovery from an horrific double leg break in 2022. The stopper, 41, hoped to be involved at the competition but with head coach Clarke having four stoppers in his initial squad, at least one was due to miss out and the Daily Record reports it's the veteran who will make way.

Zander Clark, Angus Gunn and Liam Kelly are the other trio of goalies now expected to have spots on the plane to make the trip for the Scots' second Euros competition in a row.

Gordon's lack of minutes under Steven Naismith looks to have worked against him in his bid to play for his country this summer and that leaves his international future up in the air at the ripe old age of 41.

Norwich goalie Gunn is expected to be the first choice while Rangers-bound Kelly will be third in line as Gordon's club teammate Clark lines up as deputy to Clarke's preferred pick.
