All-rounder Glenn Maxwell hit 145 not out from 65 balls, including 14 4s and nine 6s.
It comes just eight days after England set a new record score in one day international cricket, making 444 against Pakistan - which also beat a record previously held by Sri Lanka.
Australia completed a regulation victory, winning by 85 runs as the hosts scored 178-9 in their alloted overs.
