England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and opted to bat as the second Investec Test against New Zealand belatedly got under way at Headingley.

The first day was washed out without a ball bowled but the players arrived in Leeds on Saturday in glorious conditions.

England were unchanged from their 170-run win at Lord's, meaning Steven Finn was again selected ahead of local boy Tim Bresnan.

New Zealand, as anticipated, replaced injured duo Bruce Martin and BJ Watling with Doug Bracewell and Martin Guptill.
