MELBOURNE, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka bowled Australia out for 460 early on day three of the third test to deny paceman Mitchell Johnson his second test century at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday.

Sri Lanka trail the hosts by 304 runs after they removed Australia's final two wickets within the first hour's play for the addition of 20 runs, with Angelo Mathews removing Nathan Lyon for one and Shaminda Eranga winding up the innings by bowling test debutant Jackson Bird for a duck.

That left Mitchell Johnson stranded on 92, with the seamer appearing in fine touch as he roared into the 90s.

Sri Lanka, who were skittled for 156 in the first innings, face a Herculean task to save the test with nearly three days remaining.

Australia lead the series 1-0 after winning the first test in Hobart, with the third and final test to be played in Sydney from Jan. 3.
