Essex's David Masters has made things tough for Hampshire

The visitors have a lead of just 96 with six second-innings wickets in hand after Masters dismissed openers Michael Carberry and Jimmy Adams as well as George Bailey.

Hamish Marshall and Benny Howell led Gloucestershire's recovery on day two of their encounter with Leicestershire at Grace Road.

Gloucestershire were in real trouble when they slipped to 46 for five in response to Leicestershire's 250 all out but Marshall and Howell, who took his maiden first-class five-wicket haul on Tuesday, steadied the ship with an unbeaten 55-run partnership to lead their side to 101 without further loss.

Michael Hogan and Michael Reed took two wickets apiece as Lancashire slipped to 86 for five after opting to bat on the first day of their match with Glamorgan at at Colwyn Bay, while Kent went to lunch on 90 for three having also won the toss against Northamptonshire at Canterbury.
