In Cardiff, Essex have been set a target of 275 to beat Glamorgan after the hosts were bowled out for 388 in their second innings.
Resuming on 303 for six, Mark Wallace and Graham Wagg extended their overnight partnership to 109 before the latter was dismissed for 55. Wicketkeeper Wallace then went on to complete his century before falling for 101, bowled by Ravi Bopara.
On day two of the match between Kent and Worcestershire at Canterbury, the visitors were 180 for seven at lunch in reply to Kent's 159 not out.
Worcestershire lost three wickets for the addition of 75 runs in the morning session, with Alexei Kervezee (29) falling without any addition to the score before Michael Johnson (38) led a fightback.
