Cris Cyborg Dropping to 140 Pounds in Attempt to Get to Ronda Rousey

Dana White: If Ronda Rousey Wins Title, Cyborg Fight Will Happen

It's the fight that everyone, including both combatants, wants to see: Ronda Rousey vs. Cris “Cyborg” Justino.

Thus far, however, it hasn't been able to happen. Rousey is ensconced as the UFC women's bantamweight (135-pound) champion and is easily the promotion's top draw. Neither she nor the UFC want her to step out of her weight class. Cyborg has long dominated at 145 pounds and currently holds the Invicta FC featherweight title.

When push comes to shove, it is Cyborg that is going to have to drop weight and make the move if the fight is to happen any time in the near future. It appears that she is finally willing to make that sacrifice.

Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp announced on Saturday night that Cyborg's next fight for her promotion will be at a 140-pound catchweight in November. There has been no opponent, specific date, or venue named, but we now have more of a concrete timeline for Cyborg to at least try getting down to Rousey's weight class.

Although it puts the fight closer than it's ever been, until the move is successful, we're still left in waiting mode.

At the Invicta FC 14 post-fight press conference, Knapp also announced that strawweight champion Livia Renata Souza will put her belt on the line against Alexa Grasso on the same Invicta FC 15 fight card in November. They were originally supposed to have fought on Saturday night's event in Kansas City, but Grasso suffered an injury that forced its cancellation.
