Cristiano Ronaldo triggered the countdown to his second Manchester United debut as he posted a picture of him in his new No7 shirt on Monday with the message: Back Home.

Ronaldo is set to appear in front of an adoring capacity Old Trafford crowd on Saturday when United host Newcastle in what will be his first appearance for the club since sealing a shock return in the final days of the transfer window.

The 36-year-old signed a two-year deal after joining from Juventus and today he sent a message to the United faithful with the word: “I’m back where I belong, my never ending love.”

In his first spell with United, Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 appearances, winning the Premier League three times and Champions League once. He did it all in the No7 shirt and although that number was held by Edinson Cavani at the start of this season, the Uruguay forward has agreed to give it up so that Ronaldo can wear it again.

Ronaldo left United for Real Madrid in 2009, and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner then enjoyed more success there before his move to Italy.

Last week, he broke the international scoring record when his two goals against Republic of Ireland took his tally to 111 goals for Portugal. However, a booking in that match meant he was suspended for Portugal’s next game, meaning he was released from international duty early, giving United a boost.
