Dress trains had a moment on Sunday in Santa Monica, Calif., at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards, from Christina Ricci to Margot Robbie. Here, WWD looks at some of the celebrities who went with dress trains on the red carpet.
Fantasia Barrino showed out to the red carpet with one of the most voluminous dress train ensembles at the Critics Choice Awards. The actress was styled by Daniel Hawkins and wore a white, strapless Alin Le’Kal gown that incorporated a deep leg slit and a feathered boa that transformed into the long dress train. The monochrome look was completed with white, pointed-toe shoes, a clutch and a necklace.

The Critics Choice Award-winner wore a custom Jovana Louis on the red carpet. Her dramatic black gown was styled by Wayman + Micah and included a bedazzled mermaid silhouette, off-the-shoulder sleeves and a medium-length train completing her eye-catching outfit.
The “Barbie” actress was styled by Andrew Mukamal and arrived on the red carpet in a custom scarlet number by Balmain. Her red gown featured a mermaid silhouette with three-dimensional roses across the top of her bodice, and a small train that blended into the red carpet. Robbie also paired Manolo Blahnik shoes with her Critics Choice Awards ensemble.
Christina Ricci wore a custom black Atsuko Kudo gown that shone on the red carpet. Her ensemble featured fun cutouts along her deep v-neckline and dress train. Ricci was styled by Julia von Boehm, who paired the form-fitting gown with a Carolina Herrera clutch. The “Wednesday” actress completed her gothic look by matching a dazzling necklace, bracelet, rings and earrings.
The Critics Choice Awards recognize the greatest film and television achievements of the year. Hosted by comedian Chelsea Handler, the 29th annual ceremony airs live on The CW. Margot Robbie will honor her “Barbie” co-star, America Ferrera, with the SeeHer Award, while James Mangold will present Harrison Ford with the Career Achievement Award.
