After Therese Johaug had made history earlier in the afternoon in becoming the first-ever Norwegian winner in the women’s race, Sundby was not far behind.
The 29-year-old claimed top spot, starting with a 49-second advantage that he enver looked like relinquishing on the final climb as compatriot Chis Jespersen finished second in the 9km pursuit.
Norway could not manage a cleansweep of the podium as the women had however as Petter Northug ended up fourth, caught at the end by Austria’s Johannes Duerr who took bronze in Italy.
