Crystal Palace are reportedly interested in signing Galatasaray right-back Sacha Boey in January, as they look to finally replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka, per a report.
Boey has been haggling over a new deal at the Turkish club for months, leaving the prospect of a move to one of Europe’s top leagues open.
Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk is desperate to keep hold of Boey, but the temptations of a big-money move may be too much to ignore for the defender.
Boey has become an essential part of Buruk’s side this season, with the youngster featuring in all but one of Galatasaray’s matches so far.
A skilful player with the ability to defend and attack, Boey has the energy to play as an effective wing-back, which has become so important in the Premier League.
The Frenchman has helped his side to five clean sheets so far this season, as well as contributing one assist.
In total, Boey has made 80 senior appearances in his career, playing at Stade Rennais and Dijon in Ligue 1, and is now flourishing in the Turkish Super Lig.
It’s fair to say that for a young player the Frenchman already has bags of experience.
Boey also featured for France’s under-20s in 2019, so is well thought of by his country too.
According to Foot Mercado, Crystal Palace, Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg are all ‘very interested’ in signing the defender before he is tied down to a new deal.
Boey’s entourage are reportedly unimpressed by Galatasaray’s renewal proposals so far, and the situation is ‘arousing the greed’ of European clubs.
Palace, Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg set to battle it out?
The Eagles have been relying on Nathaniel Clyne at right-back for the last two seasons after losing former star man Wan Bisakka to United in 2019.
Boey could provide some much-needed cover in that area for Patrick Vieira.
The Frenchman could be a solid long-term investment, as at 22 years old he has plenty of room to improve.
Eintracht Frankfurt, on the other hand, also have good reason to be keen on Boey.
The Europa League champions only have one out-and-out right-back option at the club, Timothy Chandler, who at 32 years old will need replacing sooner or later.
Frankfurt supporters will be keen to see the club bolster their ranks as they aim for Champions League qualification this season.
As for Wolfsburg, their first-choice right-back Ridle Baku has been in decent form this season.
However, with manager Niko Kovac opting to play him on the wing recently, the former Croatia boss may also require cover in that area.
Galatasaray may not yet be too concerned though, given Boey’s current contract with the club runs until 2025.
However, Fussball Transfers have suggested that if one of the three interested parties submit a sizeable offer, a January transfer is not out of the question.
Transfermarkt value Boey at £6.5m, but it’s likely the required transfer fee would be well beyond that price given the current competition.
