Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira thinks Manchester City will take the Premier League title race with Arsenal to the “very last day” of the season.

The Gunners took back top spot over the weekend as City succumbed to a late equaliser from Chris Wood in a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.

After beating Aston Villa 4-2 on Saturday, Arsenal are now two points ahead of the Citizens with a game in hand, while third-placed Manchester United have closed the gap on City to three points.

And Vieira is expecting the Premier League title race to go to the final day with City unlikely to allow Arsenal to run away with the title.

“I think the Premier League title is Arsenal’s to lose, to be honest with you,” Vieira told William Hill.

“I think Arsenal did really well against Aston Villa on Saturday, to bounce back with that 4-2 win at Villa Park. They are just in a really good place at the moment, with a lot of confidence.

“But I still believe Manchester City will chase Arsenal until the very last day of the Premier League season. But I think it’s Arsenal’s title to lose.”

Former Man Utd defender Wes Brown was impressed by how Arsenal responded to defeat against Man City by beating Aston Villa and he’s a “little bit surprised” by how quickly their new players have gelled.

Brown told Lord Ping: “I wouldn’t say that I’ve been surprised by what Arsenal have done so far this season. I like Arteta, I like how he works. You could see that he has been trying to get a really good squad of players together with the signings that Arsenal have made over the last few windows.

“I’m a little bit surprised at how quickly he has got the team to gel – they’ve settled really quickly – and you can tell that the players love what he does and the style he wants them to play. Arsenal have flown out of the traps since the first game of the season and you can see the togetherness in the team is higher than at most other clubs in the league.

“There is a willingness in the team, they work hard and never give up. Like everyone else, I thought that they were going to get beat and have a real blip, but they kept going and responded brilliantly against Aston Villa after losing to Manchester City.

“You can see that Arteta and his staff are drilling that winning mentality in the team. The players know it’s close (winning the title), they just have to keep on going with the same spirit. It looks like he has a great bunch of lads there that are playing really good football.”
