Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has undergone surgery on his Achilles injury after missing the final game of the Premier League season.

Townsend did not travel with the Eagles’ squad to Old Trafford last Saturday as Manchester United ran out 2-0 winners.

The 25-year-old had also been withdrawn early through injury during the 4-0 win over Hull that assured Palace of survival and visited hospital to undergo a procedure to ease the pain.

“Andros had a minor procedure earlier in the week to remove an irritation to the Achilles' tendon,” club doctor Zafar Iqbal wrote on the Crystal Palace website.

“He had been struggling with it in the latter part of the season and it was then decided to address the issue at the end of season to allow him to return and be ready for the start of pre-season.”

Townsend made 36 appearances for Palace in the Premier League, scoring three goals and providing six assists.
