Cub Swanson Shoots Down a Doo Ho Choi Rematch
Shortly after his unanimous decision win over Doo Ho Choi at UFC 206 this past Saturday, featherweight veteran Cub Swanson was already being asked about the possibility of a rematch.
Though Choi is ranked lower than Swanson, and usually the winner seeks to move up, the bout was exciting enough that people would want to see the fight again. Swanson, however, has a different view.
When asked about the possibility of a rematch with Choi at the UFC 206 Post-Fight Press Conference, Swanson responded, “I don’t really see the need for it.”

Swanson’s reasoning for not giving Choi a rematch? The fact that he himself has not ever been given a chance to rematch the fighters that he has lost to in the past.
“I’ve never been given a rematch for my losses, so I really don’t feel like giving anyone a rematch for my wins until I get the Chad Mendes, the (Ricardo) Lamas, the (Max) Holloway, the (Jose) Aldo – all the bigger fights that I’ve lost,” said Swanson.
The only way Swanson sees himself possibly rematching Choi or any other fighters he’s beaten in the UFC since he joined the promotion in 2011, is if he is given what he’s been denied in the past.
“If I got those rematches, I might be open to some of the ones that I won,” Swanson said.
Currently, only Frankie Edgar, Lamas, and Holloway sit above him in the official UFC featherweight rankings, thus Swanson might just finally get one of those much sought-after rematches that he has thus far been denied come 2017.
