Cubs have no interest in Sammy Sosa reunion after strange interview
Don’t expect to see Chicago Cubs outfielder Sammy Sosa at Wrigley Field any time soon. While the outfielder has expressed a desire to return to the franchise after a nasty divorce following the 2004 season, the team has no interest in a reunion.

While that stance is in line with how the organization has operated regarding Sosa the past few years, things apparently got worse after Sosa gave an interview to former media relations employee Chuck Wasserstrom, according to Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune.
Members of the front office deemed that interview so bizarre that they have closed the door on a possible reunion with the slugger.
The Cubs declined to comment on Sosa’s latest remarks, but [team Chairman Tom] Ricketts and other high-ranking officials apparently weren’t happy with the interview and have decided to stop talking about him.
In their defense, Sosa’s interview with Wasserstrom did go to some weird places. In it, Sosa claimed to have put Chicago on the map in the ’90s, made a weird comment about hitting more home runs than Cubs legend Ernie Banks and compared himself to Jesus Christ. The whole thing was just incredibly strange.
Though the team never hinted at a reunion, winning the World Series seemed like the perfect time to bring Sosa back. Perhaps the elation of the historic win would make members of the front office more forgiving toward Sosa. Maybe the fan base would once again embrace him now that the team is coming off a championship.
That was probably always wishful thinking, but it at least seemed possible up until Tuesday. After Sosa’s comments, any chance at a reunion has been squashed. Given how upset the front office sounds, it’s going to take quite some time for Sosa to work his way back into the good graces of those running the team.
