Cumbrian swimmer Luke Greenbank is aiming for European success after disappointment at the Commonwealth Games.

The Cockermouth star is part of the British team currently in Rome for the European Championships.

He will be in action in the men’s backstroke today in the last of three major events in quick succession.

After the world championships, where Greenbank won individual and relay medals, he missed out on podium places at the Commonwealths in Birmingham.

He will hope to end the summer on a high note in Italy.

British Swimming performance director Chris Spice said: “We have been impressed with our athletes’ performances in the water to date [this summer], and we know it will be the same again as they take on a strong field across the European nations.”
