Michael Albasini

Orica-GreenEdge rider Albasini sprinted his way to victory after another dominant performance, breaking away to win ahead of Europecar’s Thomas Boeckler and Omega Pharma-QuickStep’s Jan Bakelants.

Voeckler and Bakelants attempted to get the edge over Albasini in the three-man breakaway sprint, but the sprint used his superior acceleration skills to pull away and beat the pair to the line.

Katusha’s Simon Spilak finished inside the peloton, nine seconds back of the trio, but the Slovenian still remains one second ahead of Chris Froome in the general classification.

However, with the time trial around Neuchatel up next, Froome is expected to take the yellow jersey and win the overall classification.
