L'Equipe claims that the Luxembourgeois will compete in the event around Adelaide for the first time after a disappointing campaign last season.

Normally, the younger Schleck brother starts his season in mid-February at the earliest.

Schleck's 2012 season was hampered when he fractured his pelvis in a crash in the time trial of the Criterium du Dauphine in early June. The injury forced him to miss the Tour de France and the Olympics in London and he only returned to the saddle in October at the Tour of Beijing.

In total, Schleck only raced 28 days in 2012 and his best result was a 22nd place finish overall at the Circuit de la Sarthe.
