Tom Jelte Slagter feierte seinen zweiten Tagessieg.

Garmin-Sharp’s Slagter added the seventh stage to his stage four success after beating world champion Rui Costa to the finish line.

Carlos Betancur, who leads the general classification, finished in third place.

Thomas suffered a heavy crash in the final five kilometres which will all but end his hopes of overtaking Betancur overall.

The crash also brought Frank Schleck and Arnold Jeanesson down, but though Welshman Thomas re-mounted he was clutching his collarbone and ended up losing significant time on the GC front-runners.

Though Costa finished a stage in second place for the second straight day, he continues the recurring theme in the general classification as he now also finds himself second overall.
