Cyriel Dessers Rangers fan plea for Celtic after moment had him saying 'come on guys, we need you'
Ahead of today's Old Firm derby, Cyriel Dessers says Rangers fans don't understand how much the team needs them.
The Gers striker has often been one of the main players to take the ire of the support during an up-and-down first season in blue, despite scoring 22 goals and adding another five already at the beginning of this season. It hasn't just been him either with the underachievement of the club continuing to grate on their followers.
One moment in particular sticks in the Nigerian's mind. During defeat to Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League as a ten-man Gers side crashed out at the qualifying stage, there were murmurings of discontent from the stands. A frustrated Dessers gestured to the fans in an attempt to rally them to get behind the team.
Reflecting on that ahead of facing Celtic, he said: "I think it was so specific to the moment. I heard boos and whistles and at that point you are thinking 'come on guys we need you'.
"Actually it is honestly we really need them in that moment and part of the fans didn't at that time and got a little frustrated but they are massive for us.
"We need them in a positive way and I think they don't know how important they can be for this team because they can push us through games and win us them."
