Cyriel Dessers warned 'be careful' as ex Rangers stars debate fan flashpoint
Two former Rangers players have taken differing views on Cyriel Dessers' flashpoint with fans.
During the Champions League qualifying defeat to Dynamo Kyiv, the Nigerian striker reacted to audible groans from the Hampden stands after he failed to control a pass up to him in the centre forward position. The furious reaction to his own support was caught on camera and BBC Scotland's Rob McLean picked up on the incident during commentary as he said: "Dessers reacting to the jeers from the crowd as the ball was played up to him and it didn't stick. He's waving his arms around furiously towards the fans and saying, 'Give me your support'."
Ex-Ibrox midfielder Derek Ferguson reckons it's a slipper slope when you start challenging your own support and insists flak is just something in football you have to accept.
Speaking on Open Goal, he said: "Dessers - be careful, mate. We get that you're giving your all and you're maybe a bit jaded. But when the fans are giving you it that's part and parcel of being a Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen, Hearts player or whoever. It's part of the game, you've got to accept that and get on with it.
"See when he starts going like that? I was really surprised. That's where somebody needs to get over and get a grip of him."
However, Gordon Dazliel offered his take and said: "I'm sorry, Dessers to me gets a tough time of it. See if you're playing centre forward right now in that Rangers team, it must be hardest position in the world to play.
"I can totally understand that frustration. And sometimes you can't just say 'I'm sorry.' I know supporters pay their money and all the rest of it but if you want to give it back, give it back to them."
