Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Lineup advice, strategy for Thursday, May 4

Sporting News

Tonight we have a small five-game daily fantasy baseball main slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. The pitching options are very weak, so your strategy might involve cheaper-but-risker pitchers and loading up on the top hitter picks. You could also try to fit in one of the top (but expensive) stacks, such as the Red Sox or the Mariners.

My research (and your research) for any DFS day should always begins with RotoQL’s DFS tools -- specifically the RotoQL MLB Lineup Optimizer. It has the information that can help you win on every DFS site, regardless of whether you're playing the day contests, evening contests, or an all-day slate.

I'll be there to help you along the way, so don't forget to give me a follow on Twitter (@DFSBenj) for more MLB and PGA daily fantasy content.

Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Thursday, May 4

Top Pitching Option

Adam Wainwright, Cardinals vs. Brewers (DK: $7,400, FD: $8,000)

This slate is an ugly one for pitchers, so I prefer to save a little from the highest priced guys and go with Wainwright, who faces the Brewers. Wainwright holds a solid 9.4 K/9 ratio this season, and while the Brewers are a team that can score some runs, they also strike out at a high rate. Vegas also likes Wainwright, as they project him to hold the Brewers to a slate-low 3.5 runs.

Top high-priced bats

Freddie Freeman, 1B, Braves (DK: $5,200, FD: $4,700)

Freeman is basically an auto play anytime he faces a righty, and tonight is no different as he goes up against Zack Wheeler at home. Freeman owns an insane .341 ISO against righthanded pitching and consistently provides one of the safest floors in all of DFS baseball.

Others to consider: Mike Trout, Robinson Cano

Top mid-tier bats

Jedd Gyorko, 2B/3B, Cardinals (DK: $4,100, FD: $3,200)

Gyorko is one of the hottest hitters in baseball, and his price hasn’t caught up quite just yet. Tonight he faces Brewers righthander Chase Anderson in a matchup that I expect Gyorko to get the best of, as he mashes righthanded pitching in tune to a .375 wOBA and .313 ISO. Gyorko is an especially good bargain on FanDuel where his price is still just $3,200.

Others to consider: Jackie Bradley Jr. (FD), Corey Dickerson

Top Value Bat

Wilmer Flores, 1B/3B, Mets (DK: $3,000, FD: $2,400)

Flores is projected to bat cleanup in a Mets lineup that has been raking as of late. Flores has notable lefty/righty splits, and tonight he faces lefty Jaime Garcia. Flores owns a slate-high .529 wOBA and an impressive .462 ISO against LHP this year. His price is also dirt-cheap, which should help you get some of those high-priced bats in your lineup.
