Daily Fantasy Champions League tips (Tuesday, 6 Dec)

Alexis Sanchez, Lio Messi and Moussa Dembele

Somewhat surprisingly we head into the final round of Champions League fixtures of 2016 with very little up for grabs in terms of qualification for the next round. Usually this means teams either throw caution to the wind or they play conservatively, rest a few players and hope not to pick up any injuries.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any mouth-watering clashes or bargains to be found this week.

Group A sees Arsenal and PSG battling it out for top spot as Ludogorets and Basel scrap for Europa League consolation. Expect goals in Paris – Ludogorets have one of the worst defences in the entire group stage, but will Edison Cavani be worth his £29m salary? If he’s on form he could score a hat-trick. Regardless, PSG's attackers should all be in the points and £17m, Marco Verrati is a cheaper option than Blaise Matuidi or forward Lucas Moura. Basel shouldn’t provide Arsenal with too many issues in Switzerland, so with Alexis Sanchez tipped to start again, while he's not cheap (at £30m) he should provide an alternative to the usual suspects (Messi, Aguero et al) and after an outstanding display against West Ham, can Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continue his fine form? He comes in at an affordable £20m. While in defence, Shkodran Mustafi at and Gabriel (both £15m) are likely to start and affordable.

Group B could make or break your Fantasy team – the top 3 teams (Napoli, Benfica and Beskitas) are separated by only a single point, and the top 2 – Napoli and Benfica – clash in Portugal, which means while nothing in life is guaranteed, goals are a distinct possiblity. All three have scored 9 goals from 5 games and have conceded a similar amount - so maybe only sign defenders if you back Besiktas to get the job done against Dynamo Kiev. Benfica duo, forward Andrija Zivkovic (£15m) and Eduardo Salvio (£17m), are well worth a punt while the Napoli attacking quartet of Dries Mertens, Marek Hamsik, Jose Callejon and Arkadiusz Milik are pricy but are consistent scorers. Meanwhile, Besiktas' midfielder Ricardo Quaresma (£25m) could enjoy a profitable outing in Kiev.

All 4 places are confirmed in Group C, as first play third and second play fourth. They’re guaranteed to finish top so Barcelona could be tempted to rest one (or two) of the Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez or Neymar so it could be worth waiting until the team lists are released an hour before kick off before confirming if you sign one of MSN - especially since they cost £32m, £30m and £31m respectively. A slightly cheaper option could be Manchester City's Sergio Aguero (£29) – with no domestic football for four games he’s bound to start, or a wildcard option could be Celtic’s Moussa Dembele (£16m) - the Bhoys have nothing to lose and could smell blood against a stuttering City. Reminder Yaya Toure was not included in City's Champions League squad, so look to Ilkay Gundogan (£20m) as an alternative.

In Group D, Atletico Madrid are guaranteed to finish top and travel to second-placed Bayern Munich. Bayern will be looking to restore some pride but Atletico have only conceded once in five games for a reason, and the Bavarian giants are coming off an embarrassing loss to minnows FC Rostov. If you're looking for a top-class defender, you could do worse than Diego Godin or the ever popular David Alaba (both at £17m). Antoine Griezmann is always popular, but at £30m there is probably better value to be found elsewhere. The other match sees PSV Eindhoven host Rostov, knowing they must beat the Russians to qualify for the Europa League – both teams have conceded 23 goals and only scored 10 between them in the CL so far, however Rostov are poor in attack on the road so look to PSV's keeper or defense for good value.
