The main focus may have been on the FA Cup and El Clasico this weekend, but that doesn't mean there weren't some absolute bangers kicking around in the Premier League. And more importantly, some interesting Yahoo Daily Fantasy performances!
With no Chelsea to disappoint managers this week, the stars came from an unexpected source - and the flops came from...well, a less unexpected one. Sorry Liverpool fans.
Bournemouth, Bournemouth, Bournemouth
Not saying that this gameweek was all about one team or anything, but...well, five of the top eight scorers played for Bournemouth in their 4-0 thrashing of Middlesbrough. That's hefty. That's very, very hefty indeed.
Those five brave souls, in descending order of points? Marc Pugh, Charlie Daniels, Harry Arter, Benik Afobe and Joshua King. Daniels and King were both relatively popular picks, in 44% and 30% of teams respectively, but the other three were picked by a whole 2.85% of managers...combined.
Only six teams have scored more goals than the Cherries since the turn of the year, and...well, goals mean points and points mean prizes. Keep a close eye on Eddie Howe's men going into the final few weeks of the season!
That's right, it's the time of the week when we talk about how Liverpool were big ol' disappointments...again.
With no City, Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal playing this week, there was some big expectation on Jurgen Klopp's men - with no fewer then EIGHT being picked by more than 10% of managers (and two by well over 60%, because who needs moderation?!).
It...didn't go well. Of those eight, only Philippe Coutinho made it into the top fifty scorers in the matchweek. The little Brazilian was worth his £26 price tag, but he was very much the only one. Disappointing against an opponent in the bottom half once again, it's very hard to trust anyone at Anfield for regular fantasy production.
Bad Week for Big Names
Liverpool may have been the worst offenders for big names underperforming, but they certainly weren't the only once. Only five of the top 20 picks scored more than ten points this week, with top pick (83.31%!) and most expensive player (£28!) Romelu Lukaku completely failing to turn up against West Ham - netting his owners 0.9 points. That's 0.032 points per pound, folks, compared to Charlie Daniels' 1.4 ppp.
Lukaku wasn't the only disappointment, although he was probably the worst of the bunch. Roberto Firmino returned just 5.3 points on the £27 that 63% of managers invested in him, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan provided 42% of managers with a whopping 0.2 points for his £17 price tag.
Oh, and Antonio Valencia - the 11th most popular player of the matchweek? Didn't even step foot on the pitch. It's a fickle game we play...
