Dana White Angles Toward Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson Rematch

Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley’s first title defense ended in a Majority Draw at UFC 205 on Saturday. It looks like a rematch between he and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson is what the fight promotion wants next.

“You rematch them. I think that it was a draw, and the fight was ridiculous. It was the Fight of the Night. We’ll do it again,” said UFC president Dana White during the UFC 205 post-fight press conference at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Woodley won the first round on all three judges’ scorecards with Doug Crosby scoring the opening frame 10-8 for the champion. Thompson took round two and round three on two of the scorecards. Glen Trowbridge scored the third round for Woodley. Woodley nearly finished Thompson in the fourth frame and all three judges scored him winning the round with Derek Cleary scoring it 10-8. All three judges scored the final round for Thompson resulting in a Majority Draw with two of the scorecards totally 47-47.

It’s not often that a title fight ends in a draw and, because the bout was so close, White thinks it makes sense to have an immediately rematch.

“That one makes sense,” he said. “I think it makes sense.”
