Dana White: Don't Expect Conor McGregor to Fight Anytime Soon

No matter what Conor McGregor‘s contractual status is with the UFC now that he wants a piece of ownership, don't expect him to be back in the Octagon before May 2017.

Fresh off of his victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on Nov. 12, McGregor revealed not only that he wanted to “get his” in regard to a stake in company ownership, but he also confirmed a widespread rumor that his girlfriend, Dee Devlin, was pregnant with the couple's first child.

“I’m going to be a daddy early next year,” McGregor revealed during the UFC 205 post-fight press conference.

For a man that isn’t afraid to take on anyone inside the cage, becoming a father has him nervous.

“I’m crapping me jocks. I’m not going to lie. I don’t know what way to take it because I don’t want to be bringing a child into anything like this. I don’t want any celebrity-type (expletive). I hate that (expletive). I don’t want my family to be like that,” he said.

He also doesn't want the pressures of fighting to affect Devlin's pregnancy, according to UFC president Dana White, who told the L.A. Times on Friday that he doesn't expect McGregor back in the cage before May.

“He won’t fight before May,” White said of McGregor. “His girl gets super stressed out when he fights. He doesn’t want her having any of that stress while she’s pregnant. He’s good. He should take time off. He’s been fighting nonstop. Nothing wrong with him taking time off. It’s good for him and her and it’s good for the baby.”

Other than that, there is no specific timetable for McGregor's return. Considering he fought three times in 2016 in three of the most successful UFC events in the promotion's history, McGregor probably needs the time off as much as Devlin.

“I’m just going to have this baby, take a little bit of time, and see the way I feel after that.”
