Dana White Says it Looks Like Jon Jones Took ‘Something Else,' Could Be Good News

Following the video UFC interim light heavyweight champion Jon Jones published over the weekend, wherein he said he'll be back “really soon,” Dana White chimed in and said things might be looking up.

The UFC president was a guest on Jim Rome's radio show on Tuesday and claimed he received information that could point to good news for Jones, backing the fighter's statement about returning to fighting sooner than later.

“It's coming back now that it looks like [Jones] did not take the supplement that everybody thought he took,” White said.

Jones was flagged by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in July for banned substances. The Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) then revealed Jones tested positive for Hydroxy Clomiphene (an anti-estrogenic agent) and Letrozole metabolite (an aromatase inhibitor) in his June 16 out-of-competition drug screen. The issue forced him out of his then-planned UFC 200 fight with Daniel Cormier on just three days notice.

White, in his interview with Rome, added that it appears the positive test stems from another source.

“Normally, I talk about anything, but when it comes to medical stuff, you can't do it,” White said, adding that he wasn't certain if the information was public or if he had permission to discuss it. “It's looking like Jon Jones did not take the drug everybody thought he took. It looks like it's something else.

“I'll let this thing play out and if that's true and that's what USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission say happened, it could look good for Jon Jones.”

Jones isn't expected to appear in front of the NAC until September or October. At that time, his disciplinary hearing will take place. Independent of the Commission, USADA's investigation into the matter is pending at this time.
