Daniel Cormier blasts Alexander Gustafsson after UFC 227 pullout
It looks like we won’t see Daniel Cormier vs Alexander Gustafsson anytime soon.
Champ Daniel Cormier took to social media with an open letter blasting Gustafsson stating they will never share the octagon again.
The pair fought in 2015 at UFC 192 after five rounds of action Daniel Cormier walked away with a hard earned split-decision win. Following the fight Gustafsson earned victories over Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira in May 2017 but has been inactive since then.
Gustafsson was scheduled to face Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 227 but lost his opponent after Oezdemir was forced to pull out due to injury.
Light heavyweight Anthony Smith who defeated former champ Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua this weekend at UFC Hamburg in the main event called out Gustafsson immediately after the fight.
After the callout Gustafsson has since announced a ‘minor injury’ first reported by MMA Junkie, forcing him off the card which didn’t sit well with champ Daniel Cormier.
Dear Alex, I don’t know what happened to you going back to the Rockhold situation. You have always been a stand up guy but your behavior changed. From calling a guy out the day after he got knocked out, to now offering to fight me knowing I have a broken hand, after Volkan couldn’t go. Now you’ve turned down Jan, turned down Khalil all while calling for a heavyweight title fight. Now, moments after Anthony Smith does his work like an animal you decide you’re hurt. Man, I respect you as a fighter. I will always be grateful for October 2015, but you and I won’t share the octagon again. I am disappointed in who you’ve become.
